We are really lucky to have loads of good places to eat within walking distance and a few minutes' drive away. 

In Grassington:

Foresters Pub on Main Street. From the cottage turn right into the square and take the road up the hill past the Devonshire Pub. Very traditional food with big portions and normally at least three veggie options.

Grassington House on The Square. If you want something special then this is the place to eat. Normally need to book as gets very busy. The bar area is also good to visit.

Cobblestone Cafe: Located on the square, this cafe is the perfect place for cooked breakfasts, lunch or cakes. Good for kids and dogs very welcome.

Cornerhouse: Located opposite the Black horse pub this really is more than a cafe. The food is amazing ideal for breakfast, lunch or a cheeky cake. Can get busy so you may have to wait but worth it.

The Retreat: Located just below the Foresters Pub on Main Street. This is a veggie cafe which serves food for lunch or cakes. Good for kids and dogs welcome.

Fish and Chip Shop: Turn right from the cottage and first right again and the shop is located 30 seconds up the hill.

Eco Cafe: Opposite the Spar shop on main street. Ideal for good coffee or hot chocolate.

Outside Grassington:

Fountaine Inn, Linton. You can either drive or walk to Linton. If you walk then go into the main square and turn left to the bottom turn left towards the national car park and then Walk through the car park to the gate at the far left hand corner. You will find a path that will take you towards the river and waterfall. Once at the river/waterfall go over the bridge and continue, following the path until you hit the road. Turn right and basically follow the road up the hill. At the crossroads go over and follow the road (signposted Linton) You will then reach a very beautiful village with the pub located on the green. Traditional pub with an open fire. Food is excellent with normally at least three veggie options. Good portions but does get very busy so go early. Good for kids as they can also play on green with the ducks.

The Angel at Hetton: Good selection of veggie options but not really ideal for children in the evening. You will need to drive there. Turn right out of the square and follow the road towards Skipton, turning left at the T junction at Threshfield. Follow the road to Cracoe and then turn right at the signpost that says Hetton. Follow the road and the pub will be located on the right. The place does get very busy as you can’t book in the pub just restaurant.

Other places to eat:

The Red Lion at Burnsall: Good food with nice views of the river.

The Devonshire Fell at Burnsall: If you fancy a posh meal out then this is a good place to eat.

The Cruckbarn in Appletreewick: A really traditional pub, serving real ales and good food accompanied by gas lighting, real log fires and a great, friendly atmosphere. The cruck barn is a heather thatched roof and soaring oak trusswork provides a truly unique atmosphere.

The Gamekeeper at Long Ashes: Good food with a small playarea for the kids.The Old Hall Threshfield: Pub food with a beer garden.

For children. There are loads of great places for children in and around Grassington as well as excellent walks.Playground. We have two playgrounds in the village, one is located at the top of the village by the town hall. 

The other is located near Grassington School at the bottom of the village. Turn left out of the square and take the path next to the school. This will lead you to the playground. 5 minutes walk.

Outside Grassington

Kilnsey park: Just up the road this is a good place to take little ones or for adults to fly fish. You can catch a trout, walk round the park and see the red squirrels. There is also a good cafe and small playarea. www.kilnseyestate.co.uk

Long Ashes Leisure Centre: About 3 minutes away, turn right out of square towards Threshfield and continue until you get to the T junction. Turn right and Long Ashes will be on your left about a mile down the road. You can buy a day pass which will allow you use of all facilities, swimming, gym, sauna and Jacuzzi. Day passes are available www.longashespark.co.uk There is also a beauty spa which has really good deals on beauty packages.

Hesketh Farm near Bolton Abbey: An interactive farm offering fun indoors and outdoors. Great for kids as you can also take a picnic. Closed on Mondays and check the days as closed in winter: www.heskethfarmpark.co.uk

Yorkshire Ice cream Parlour amazing for kids and adults near Bolton Abbey. Really really worth going to. Located just off the A59 there is an American Diner serving amazing burgers, hotdogs, waffles, pancakes even veggie options. Also great ice cream. There is a very good play area for kids which is free but you can’t take picnics or food. It does get very busy so do go early or late. www.yorkshiredalesicecream.co.uk.

Bolton Abbey Estate: Great for walking but also good for kids. They have a new trail for kids at the Cavendish area. Basically you pay for a car park entrance and then get access to all three car parks. The Priory and ruins is a really nice walk for the kids but check the website for events as there is always something on www.boltonabbey.com

Pony Trecking at Kilney: Ideal for all abilities and ages. www.kilnseyriding.com

Pateley Bridge: Turn left out of the village and continue towards Harrogate. There is a good playground on left and if take a walk into the village you can visit the oldest sweet shop in the world.

Stump Cross Caverns: Turn left out of the village and continue towards Harrogate. Ideal for smaller kids and the cafe is really nice aswell. The caves are located between Pateley Bridge and Grassington on the B6265. www.stumpcrosscaverns.co.uk

Skipton Castle: Great for little knights as you can go round the castle and visit the tea room.

Coffee and Clay: Great cafe located near the castle on the high street in Skipton. You can paint pots and then have lunch for a cake in the coffee shop below.

Stockeld Park, www.stockeldpark.co.uk If you stay during the Summer, Halloween or Christmas then this is a great place to visit. Located between Harrogate and Wetherby they have themed adventures which is a great day out but can get busy.

Bettys Tea Room: This famous tea room is definitely worth a visit in Harrogate, however expect to queue.RHS Garden Harlow Carr: Beautiful gardens but also good to burn energy for children. There is regular events but there is also a great outdoor playarea plus Bettys Tea room.

Valley Gardens: Lovely park with outstanding garden for free. Great playground with a paddling pool. On Cold Bath Road near by there is also a great homemade icecream parlour called Vanilli. Definitely worth a visit.

Newby Hall nr Ripon. Great in the summer for kids as you can take a picnic. There is a really good adventure wooden playground plus an interactive water play area and miniature railway. Don’t forget to take kids swimming clothes and a towel. Check times and dates for opening: www.newbyhallandgardens.com

Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal: Near Ripon. 12th century abbey ruins and the only surviving Cistercian Corn Mill set in 800 acres. www.nationaltrust.org.uk/fountains-abbey/

Harewood House and Estate: Visit Harewood house built in the 18th centry which has a very impressive art collection and gardens www.harewood.org

Maize Maze at Birchfield farm near summerbridge: www.birchfieldicecream.co.uk The kids will love the maize maze. Check dates and times for openings.   Also have strawberry picking in the summer and pumpkin picking in the Autumn.
